Pain is a common human experience.
How it is managed doesn’t have to be.
The Three Pillars of Functional Manual Therapy®️
The treatment approach of choice at Revive and Thrive
Mechanical Capacity
The assessment and treatment of the mobility of the skin, fascia (connective tissue), muscles, joints, nerves, and viscera. The quality of movement of these tissues determines how a body can move into and out of functional postures. The mechanical capacity of a single region of the body can have a direct impact on the neuromuscular function and motor control of the entire body as a whole.
Neuromuscular Function
The assessment of the ability of an individual to engage a group of muscles that are meant to work together with the appropriate amount of strength and endurance specific to the task, as well as allow these same muscles to relax. Treatment involves the use of very specific manual contacts to facilitate the core muscles that have stopped working properly in response to pain and dysfunction of the system.
Motor Control
The assessment involves determining if the parts of the system are working together as a whole in the most efficient manner while assuming a specific posture or performing a dynamic functional task. In other words, can the core muscles that stabilize, stabilize with appropriate timing, while the global muscles perform a movement or task? Treatment progresses from part to whole to train a more efficient motor strategy.
Functional Efficiency = The Ultimate Goal of Treatment Intervention
The artful blending of the 3 pillars of treatment to move the individual toward optimal function of their movement system. Optimal function is not simply increasing range of motion of a joint or regaining strength of an isolated region. It is instead providing the system with options for movement and training that system to automatically use more efficient strategies to reduce overall mechanical stress on the body for a better quality of life!
